I know this topic has been mentioned many times, but for the sake of newbies or those not in the know,
There is a gang of kids ages from 8 - early teens, who operate in the area from Walking Street to the 7/11 ( heading towards ABC). They come up to you asking for money. Then one tries the distraction tactic of grabbing your hand whilst at the same time others attempt to empty your other pocket of its contents.
This happened to me tonight between walking street and margarita station, fortunately I am aware of what was going on and dont carry anything of value in accessible pockets. I pushed him away whilst at the same time made it clear to local stallholders what was going on. The doorman at Margarita station said it is a common problem and suggested using trikes. Everywhere, he also advised that not to hit the kids even if caught with hand in pocket, but to just raise the alarm, as a foreigner would be the one going to gaol not the kids!
I have visited Angeles for about the last 10 years and have seen a gradual but unwelcome increase in this behaviour and of street begging in general, which seems to be getting more aggressive and persistent.
But be aware of the unexpected in Angeles it can surprise you when least expected 5 years ago when walking across from friendship gate jeepney station to SM with my then Philippine GF , we were approached by a begger carrying a young child, expecting the usual story of needing baby food, we were both surprised when she offered to sell her baby for 5000 php. So beware of any unexpected scam or story and keep a check on your wallets when out and about.
