I just dealt with a situation in a way I think makes sense but am interested in feedback from other members. As background, I am a newbie with respect to Philippines but have been to Thailand and other places.
I have been chatting with a very nice girl in Cebu.....she works in call center......has a daughter who lives with her mom on some other island.
My girl was telling me how she needs to gain weight and she eats only once per day.....I asked her if its because she does not have enough money and she said that's the main issue....she sends almost her whole salary to her mom to take care of daughter.....so me being a nice guy, I offer to send her $50 and ask her to promise to keep it for herself for food. She was not asking or hinting for money at all.
So.....2 days later....she tells me how her daughter asked her to come to her kindergarten graduation and she does not have enough money to travel there.....said she will sell her phone to pay for it.......I told her that's not a good idea as obviously she needs a phone.......now I think she definitely was hinting in a way that she hoped I would send her more money.
I did not offer and just told her that she needs to explain to daughter she can't come now.....but maybe she will come later in summer. I told her I have to tell my son he can't have everything he wants. The amount of money she needs is not an issue for me but I just felt like I did not need to be sending money twice in a week.......
I really felt bad that the girl maybe does not have enough money for food so I was glad to help her......but I felt she was testing me a bit with the hinting for more money for daughter's graduation......if she loses interest then so be it.....
