Minutes Of Last Bbba Meeting

BBBA meeting 19 June 2014 at Wild Orchid Resort Baloy

 

Guest Speakers included: 

LtCol Luisito Bolivar, Olongapo City Assistant Director

Captain Angelito “Gie” Baloy,  Barrio Barretto Barangay Captain

Inspector Camaya, Station 6 PNP Barrio Barretto

Norman Tuazon, City Liason to the US Military

 

Dave Fischer opened the meeting with a review of Agenda Plan of Action Items for the meeting.  Dave asked all in attendance to provide a good email address and phone number for their business concern.  A Treasury Report was provided with p75,900 current balance.  The monies paid to date would be reviewed to purchase Emergency Equipment and pay labor costs for a BBBA dedicated part time support person.  Wild Orchid dues would be reviewed to include a reduction for the meeting room and air conditioning usage for the monthly meeting.  Health Clinic location has not been finalized and will be reviewed before next month’s meeting.  Street Light “Adopt a Light” campaign will be pursued for business to pay for a light(s) and its operation near their businesses.  Dave asked for a show of hands who received the email Meeting Announcement.

 

David Porter discussed the BBBA Website development progress.  Hotel and Restaurant Pampanga website has been used as the model for our site to evolve from.  The BBBA Website will include two sections Tourism, public information, hotel booking, events to attend, etc.  A separate BBBA members only section will include employee registry; business related information, names and numbers for government, police, dept. of tourism and barangay representatives.  David asked content material, photos, business info to be submitted for inclusion to the BBBA website directly to his personal email address.  Name of the BBBA website will be Barretto4U.com  

 

Jerry Walsh provided membership numbers of 15, with 132 email addresses of other interested parties. 180 businesses were estimated to be in the BBBA target membership group.  Attendance at the meetings has been averaging 50+, and Dave also mentioned Cliff Horn’s proposal that only dues paying members be allowed to attend general membership monthly meetings.  A vote may be called to close meeting attendance to dues paying members at the BBBA July meeting. 

 

Norman Tuazon the City Of Olongapo Mayor’s representative to visiting forces, the U.S. Embassy contact, NCIS discussed the arrival of more ships to the area.  The main concern on opening forces usage in the Barretto/Baloy is are moral issues from the last Ambassador.  Norman identified currently visiting forces could only visit if on official leave or vacation status.  He identified the current area open to visiting forces on liberty or R&R was on SBMA proper and Magsaysay/Rizal triangle.  Norman suggested BBBA written correspondence to the U.S. Embassy highlighting the safe, clean business area we operate in and are available to visiting force members.  It was suggested we identify our website for business information review.

 

Barangay Captain Gie Baloy discussed cleaning of the drainage in the Barretto and providing Peace and Order for U.S. forces which are projected to be a plus to our business economy.  Captain Baloy mentioned tourists need attractive peaceful locations to vacation and visit. 

 

Dave Fischer stated you get one chance to make a good first impression and Baloy Road does not make a good first impression to visitors.  Dave discussed 911 calling list for BBBA members to be notified simultaneously during emergencies.  29 May Raid of Rum Jungle business was declared unlawful by Inspector Camaya, Sta6 and LTC Bolivar, city police deputy.  To be legal coordination and clearance with Sta6 must happen.  A valid search warrant, a marked police vehicle, police must present valid ID’s and a uniformed police officer grade must be present for a valid raid to occur.  None of the requirements were met for the May 29th raid.  Contact jerry at Alaska if anything looking like a raid is occurring, he will notify Sta6 and 164 police personnel. 

 

Cliff Horn asked Captain Baloy to enforce right of way to the beach for drainage.  Captain Baloy indicated he had already spoken to property owner’s beach side to provide drainage right of way.  He agreed it was time to get the City Engineer’s office involved in reviewing access through the beach right of ways for drainage off Baloy long Beach Road towards the ocean.

 

David Porter discussed today 19 June as the last day for non-registered, non-accredited driving services to NAIA and Clark Field airports. Certified, accredited driver service vehicles have secured passenger liability insurance and DOT stickers on franchised service vehicles.
