I have another post in a different forum where at first the relationship was shaky. Mostly on my part because of under the circumstances we met (she's a bargirl - trust/jealousy/me thinking she was scamming me/and wondering if she could still be having guests was what ate me up each day). She no longer works at the bar I got her to go home (yes I'm sending money each month and I'm okay with that and I trust her more now and the relationship is going great). I'm filipino myself and the problem that I'm worried about now is that we could possibly be related. This has seriously been one roller coaster of a relationship I feel like I could wright a book on the things I've gone thru.
Later on in this relationship she opens up to me and tells me that her father's middle name (his mother's surname) is the same as my surname, at first I just smirked and thought oh must have been more common of a surname than I thought.... I'm going there next month to spend time with her (I migrated to Australia since I was a kid) My Mom doesn't know much about my GF just her first name and she doesn't know that her father's middle name is the same as my surname. My Mom begins to ask some more questions about her like which area she's from, I tell her then my Mom as if mother's instinct kicked in and tells me to check if we could be related because she tells me my fathers uncle moved and lived in the same area a long time ago settled and had kids. It's not a small town population is over 120,000.
I haven't told my GF what my Mom told me yet. So when my GF first told me we could POSSIBLY be related we just assumed that it's probably a very distant relation and we're cool with it. But now I'm worried it's probably a lot closer than we first thought. I'm trying to get her to ask her dad what his mom's dad's name is, but it seems she just doesn't want to find out anything because we're so into each other right now, and everything is going so great I'm going to visit her next month and we're going to Palawan for a holiday. So by the looks of it I'm the only one that knows that we COULD be related it's still not certain, is there a way I could find out without anyone getting involved? Are there services that I could go to in the Philippines that can find this out for me? Should we have a DNA test? From the looks of things we probably are 3rd cousins. Is this even acceptable in filipino culture?
