The Bagelboy Jewish Club of the Philippines will be holding their 9th Annual Channukah Celebration this coming Thursday, the 28th, at around 4:30 - after Thanksgiving Dinner, LOL
If you or anyone you know is interested, please send me a PM. Any and all are welcome.
We'll have a traditional Holiday Meal, along with some home-made delectable latkes - after all, what would Thanksgiving be without latkes?
Channukah is also called the Festival of Lights. It commemorates G-d allowing one day's worth of oil needed to keep a flame alive over The Torah (laws), to burn for 8 days - until new consecrated oil could be available. Judah Maccabe won the battle by the way.
This convergence of the first of the 8 days of Channukah - an additional candle is lit each night - with Thanksgiving is amazingly rare...
This year’s confluence is a once-in-about-2,000-lifetimes experience. Hanukkah and Thanksgiving on the same day last happened in 1861, except that Thanksgiving wasn’t established until 1868! And the next time the first day of Hanukkah will happen on Thanksgiving — Thursday, November 28 — will be in the year 79,811
Anyway, as we like to say at almost all Jewish Events, "They tried to kills us. We won. Let's eat."
