Finding A Filipina Wife

$

don-lee started a thread about his wonderful Filipina wife recently. He was asked:

So where are the right places to look for a good on in the phils.

And answered, in part:

A good place to look is anywhere regular, hard working, at normal jobs, girls with traditional values congregate. Or try to find those types on date sites. If you are wowed by heavily made up glamorous looking girls with fancy gadgets tattoos and sad stories then you won't find a good one.

....

Province girls from decent families with values are what you hope for. The catholic church is put down a lot on this board. However a Catholic girl with a strong conscience, who knows right from wrong and is capable of feeling shame and guilt and has a naturally kind and accepting manner is really a good base for a wife.

I though it would be worth having a thread on "So where are the right places to look for a good one in the Philippines?"

After 1 Month In Bangkok Final Thailand Thoughts

$
0
0

Well I have just finished my 2 month stay in Thailand and am finally out of the country. Before I came here I thought there was a decent chance I may spend a lot of time living here, maybe even getting an education visa if I liked it.

At the least I thought I would stop back by and check out Chiang Mai and maybe Phuket. But 2 months was more then enough for me to realize Thailand is not right for me.

Even though I don't really hang out with many people, am a loner, and don't care about having relationships with people I still don't want to live in a country where people are so rude.

It just seems like most people here are nice to your face, but then when they realize you aren't a tourist that is going to throw a lot of money around they quickly lose interest. And they can be assholes about it.

This is of course much worse when dealing with hookers and people in the touristy areas. But when so many of the non hookers don't speak English it really makes things difficult.

The Positives of Thailand

They are pretty much the same as I thought they would be coming in. The internet is much better, though you can't really rely on a shared wifi at a condo. Luckily the 4g is so good you can get work done, but streaming things will eat up all your mobile data.

The food is really good and not just the Thai food. In the Philippines there are 'bakeries' all over but they are almost all awful. The baked goods in a Thai supermarket are better than the baked goods in an American supermarket and it isn't even close.

You will get a much nicer apartment for your money in Thailand. I will never understand why the apartment value is so awful in the Philippines, but luckily I am not really a materialistic person that cares to much about that.

They don't try to hide the sex tourism industry here which is nice. Soi Cowboy is literally right across the street from the nicest mall in Bangkok. The BJ bars aren't hidden, and the 'massage' shops are everywhere you go.

The BJ bars are probably the biggest positive, especially now that I have started seeing some hotter girls at them. My first walks by they were all older not so attractive women. Recently I have found some cute ones. And every BJ I have got at one has been very good to great.

The streets are cleaner and overall everything is nicer, if you are a picky person then you will find a lot wrong with the Philippines and a lot right with Thailand.

You can definitely live really cheaply in Thailand. $1,000 a month in Bangkok or Pattaya can give you a pretty good life. Can't complain to much when that is possible. But......

To Me The Negatives Outweigh the Positives

I am sorry but Thai people just kind of suck. I am really surprised at how drastic the difference between Thais and Filipinos is. Someone who comes in from the western world probably won't notice, I didn't notice after my first time in Pattaya.

But after living in Phils for 3 years and returning it is so obvious now. The worst offenders are the people in the sex tourism industry but if you can't speak to many of the 'normal' girls because they are bad at English what else are you going to rely on?

One of the main reasons things are so bad here is because so many more tourists come. I keep repeating it but the market is truly spoiled. There are so many tourists here that the prices just keep going up and up.

Whether in Bangkok or Pattaya I see so many more white people, and so many more young white guys. There is very little foreigner value. If you wanted that you would need to go to some smaller city, but how much English will they speak there?

You won't get much foreigner value in Chiang Mai since it is one of the biggest digital nomad destinations in the world. And I have heard Phuket is the worst for rude people that want to take advantage of tourists.

The prices for hookers is pretty ridiculous for SEA, and finding really hot hookers is hard. To be fair finding really hot hookers in Phils is hard to, but it is easier to get better deals.

Not just the price though, dealing with Filipina hookers is so much easier and better than dealing with Thai hookers. I'm not a sensitive guy, but I still don't like dealing with rude people all the time.

Outside of the BJ bars and the 'massage' shops all over that make it a guarantee that you can bust a nut whenever you want I can't really think of any positives to the Thailand hooker scene.

I'm Glad Everyone Else Likes it So Much

It really is nice that a place that doesn't work for me is the most popular place with other expats and tourists. Keep flooding the streets of Thailand and spoiling the market.

The more people that go there the less that are spreading out across other Asian locals and slowly making each one worse. Instead just keep ruining the place with the rude locals..

Arizona Contact / Cost Of Car From Mnl Directly To Subic?

$

This will be my first time to Subic, looking to leave the USA in 2 days and stay about a week at Arizona Resort if I can get a hold of them...

If I can get ahold of them I'm going to ask about an airport transfer as well, but their site is down and to be honest I have no idea if rooms will even be available... Anyone know the occupancy around this time?  If I can't reach them, do you think it's a relatively safe bet to just show up there?

The other thing I don't know is how to get there - I really don't feel like stopping in AC...

Does anyone have any good contact for a ride from MNL airport directly to Subic?  Price/contact info?

Or alternatively, do you guys know if flat rate airport taxis go all the way to Subic (and what is that cost?)?

Thanks in advance, guys!

Rise In School-Leaving Age To 18 Set To Hit University Admissions

Class half-empty for Philippine universities

Felipe Salvosa

Rise in school-leaving age to 18 set to hit admissions

In the Philippines, where university diplomas are proudly displayed in living rooms, higher education institutions are recession-proof enterprises.  The stable tuition cash flow, much of it coming from 10m Filipinos working overseas, has attracted conglomerates like SM Investments and Phinma to create their own private universities.  When the country’s universities reopen next term, however, the unthinkable will happen — there will be no freshmen enrolling and thousands of tenured faculty will be made redundant.

The empty lecture halls are the result of a change in government policy that will require all students in the Philippines to stay in high school until they are 18, rather than 16, if they wish to attend university.  It is a bitter pill that the government is asking universities to swallow, although for good reason.

The state education system had previously funded six years of primary school and four years of high school, up to grade 10 — the shortest schooling period in Asia. Most children have traditionally entered university, largely unprepared, at 16.  Under legislation passed by congress in 2013, as many as 1.6m students who would have finished school at grade 10 are now expected to enrol in grade 11, or senior high school, this year.  Only 41 advanced high schools out of more than 11,000 have retained the right to send students directly to university at the age of 16 in June, leading to a precipitous drop in university student admissions.

FT Confidential Research, a Financial Times research service, estimates that the number of students enrolled in university will have roughly halved by 2017. The majority of universities are privately run — with some larger providers listed (see chart) — and the shift could damage their profitability over the medium term, according to FTCR.

However, only 5,900 out of a little over 8,000 public high schools will be equipped to admit senior high school students — grades 11 and 12 — this year. To plug the gap, about 4,600 private high schools have been awarded licences to take senior high school students.

The education reform has thus created opportunities for listed affordable private school providers, which can fill a supply gap created by the government’s failure to expand the capacity of the state education system adequately.

Those who will benefit most are STI Education Systems; Affordable Private Education Centre, a joint venture between the Ayala property conglomerate and British educational publisher Pearson; and Phinma Education, a unit of energy and resources group Phinma.

These private school providers can expect to receive state subsidies, of about 20,000 pesos ($421) a student, for enrolling students from the public school system.  University enrolment levels are not expected to normalise again until 2022 and about 25,000 college staff could lose their jobs, the education department estimates. Until then, university faculty will have to go on an extended school break.

Visiting The Philippines In Dec 16 - Advice Needed

Gents,

I'll be making my first trip to the PI with my Filipina wife this Dec. The plan is to spend 1-2 nights in Manila before heading to Boracay for 2-3 days.

Can you recommend how to best take advantage of 2hrs of free time that I'll get when "heading out for a massage" in both Manila and Boracay?

Is there even a action to be had while in Boracay? I'm okay with getting just a HE after a massage.

Thanks in advance!

Back In Angeles City For The Third Time

$

Hi guys...

I have been lurking, but not been contributing much. So, since I have just gotten back a few days again, and nursing my post AC blues, I thought it would be a good idea to contribute a little on the short gateaway.

A little background of myself. I am a 40+ asian guy from a little sunny island. This would be my third trip to AC, but I am a regular visitor to Pattaya, which I frequent almost 4 to 5 times a year. I was planning to head to Patts for this trip, but a friend of mine, Nathan, suggested a trip down to AC since my last trip was about 2 years back. To be honest, I wasn't that thrilled on the idea, as I found AC to be relatively less attractive in terms of girls and places to go during the day as compared to Patts. But boy, was I glad to have come this time round.

I was also a little hesitant to write this TR, as I have once again did the unthinkable.... falling for a bargirl. Ya, that crap that we are all familiar with. Every trip I tell myself not to fall in love, but half the time, I just ignored my own advice. Anyway, you see how it happened, but please, I know the possible outcomes, and I just want to enjoy the gfe for now.

So, this trip started with just Nathan and I. Subsequently, another friend, Jack, was also invited to come along. Another 2 friends, Van and Lomo, got to know of the trip and decided to tag along. And so, a party of 5. The idea was to head to the bars early, get the girls, and then back to the hotel for a night of partying, which we did. Read on...oh ya... sorry, no pics. That was the rule :P

Day 0 (D-1):

The pre trip anticipation was killing us. We have been counting down the days. The day before departure, we had lunch and the planning started. What to bring, what to do, where to go.....

Many years ago, while in the US Navy and visiting Olongopo, I played a game called Smiles at one of the bars there. I have recently started revisiting the Phils twice annually. This year I finally convinced my younger brother to go with me. I would like to know if anyone here knows where I can take my brother to experience the game called Smiles.

Robbed By A White Guy

Well I'm sure everyone is going to call me stupid - and I admit I am and have been incredibly stupid and should know better, but hindsight is a great thing, anyway, what a tale of misery this week.

First of all on Friday I lost my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 around 11:30 pm to around midnight somewhere either in or just leaving Atlantis to getting a trike at checkpoint and reaching my hotel reception before I realised. I quickly jumped in another trike and saw the manager at Atlantis who checked and couldn't find it. So it might have been pickpocketed just outside or fell out of pocket in the trike. I admit I was drunk. I had not drank for about 3 weeks and so the G&T did go to my head.

Anyway so I went to see Samsung Service Centre in Savers Mall to do a trace on the GPS, but they had moved but the Samsung shop there said I could do a search at SM Mall but to take my passport as proof of ID as well (which isn't necessary as it turns out).

So today I went to SM Mall. I went after the gym so still had on my gym shorts (with no pockets) so the passport and wallet were in the pocket of my gym bag. Stupid I know!. I bought a drink at the buko stall outside and had my wallet then. I stopped at only one place after - the information centre to  ask where the shop was. An old white guy, tall, white hair, English speaking, was sanding behind me and butted in. I left the info centre desk and walked to the shop but then saw my bag open and passport and wallet gone. Fuck!

Immediately went back to info centre and called over guard within 5 minutes of it happening. No sign of guy of course. All CTTVs pointing in wrong direction but might catch him still as the Mall is checking (we have to apply for authorisation and I have to return tomorrow - so hopefully might see him, walking towards and away from the info desk).

But anyway, be careful. I wasn't My first theft (phone) was probably Filipino or it just fell out of pocket, but second was 100% a white guy.

Ps If anybody sees passport - UK, red, William Adams, or indeed gets offered to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with cracked screen - its mine, appreciate a heads up!

And if the thief is a BM here - shame on you! Please return the passport or drop it off somewhere I can pick up. I dont care about the wallet.
