Philippine Practice Of Medicine: Real Or Quack?

I'm so shocked listening to my girl's stories of visits to the doctor of her relatives, neighbors, etc.

Her uncle collapsed while working, he was loaded into a trike and taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a stroke. Couldn't do anything for him so he was sent home where he lay on his bed until he died. Heck, if he was in the states, he likely would have survived and made an almost full recovery.

Her neighbor across the street died yesterday. She was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with meningitis. What? Isn't that highly contagious? Do those doctors have the lab to truly diagnose that? And now she's back at her house, in a coffin with a glass top - part of their custom.

Last year a young boy got bit by a stray dog, died 3 days later. Rabies?

When someone in her family gets sick, it gets passed around guarantee. She goes to the doctor, he prescribes medicine, she uses the same prescription for everyone. I had to explain to her that she needs to take all the antibiotics, all of it, herself, even if she starts feeling better, and to not share it with anyone. I'm worried, what if they have strepp throat?

The pharmacy - apparently you don't need a prescription for many drugs. Sounds like she asks advice from the pharmacist as if he is a doctor: she tells the symptoms, he gives the prescription.

Scars. Many there have keloid scarring - what, they don't know how to care for a wound to prevent that?
